This is a topic long grown cold, but I just completed a rehab of my '81 coupe sunroof. I had ordered straps from Felix in SA and annoyingly found that they didn't fit. The hole centers were right but the holes a bit small and I questioned whether there was enough material in the plastic ends to redrill, especially the outboard ends. 3/8" steel fuel line would nearly work, but I found some tubing with thicker wall (from a BMW motorcycle handelbar!) and welded 3/4" lengths onto the outer ends of the stainless straps and the thing now works fine. It's a finicky job, but not nearly as hard as it looks.
