My 75 Beta coupe needed a new rack bush, the old one busted apart and what was left deposited in the end cap.It is a TRW manual rack.Got a new bush from Beta Boys(a new addition to their reproduction parts).Got the new bush installed, but what is the correct amount and type of oil to put in?I can't find any mention of rack oil in my Hayne's manual, and my Beta factory shop manual just says "Fill the rack housing with oil in the quantity brand and grade recommended on the sheet DT-Beta-12/0040".Unfortunately,I don't have the mentioned sheet. Can anyone enlighten me as to what to fill this thing with? Would 80 or 90 gear oil be acceptable?Any help is appreciated!

Charley,
DT 12/0040 hasn't got any lubricant info - it references DT 17/0010 for it.
From Sheet DT/17/0010 Rev 6 Dated 26/4/78:
Options are:
Olio Fiat W 90/H SAE 80W-90
AGIP F. 1 Rotra HP SAE 85W-90
Esso Gear Oil GX 85W-90
Mobilube HD 90
Volume is 200 cm^3.
BP Mobilube ASE HT EP 00 (o)
(o) 25 gr
There is a note saying ZF only, but I can't decode if it is just for the grease or the whole lot.
Sorry it's not much help. I'll email the relavent pages to you when I get to work.
Regards, Simon

From my owner's manual-
TRW steering gear 0.42 Pints 0.39 Lb Esso gear oil GX90 or Mobilube HD 90
ZF steering gear BN energrease HT EP 00 (no quantity listed)
BTW, I find that there is a lot of vital information in the glovebox owner's manual which is not duplicated in either the DT book or the shop manual (like an accurate schematic and fill up data!)

I looked at your website. Great looking coupe! I hope mine looks that good when its done. I've got an appointment for the week of 7-17 to have the leather reworked which should be a major cosmetic step. Other than that there is just reviving the AC and a few relatively minor cosmetic issues to take care of. I'm hoping to have it ready for the Euro Festival at the Spartanburg BMW plant this fall. I went last year and there were tons of gorgeous Italian cars there but not a single Lancia and relatively few common Fiats- mostly 124s and a sole X.
If you ever need any more technical info, I would be glad to look it up for you. I have all (I think...) of the factory manuals for the '75 coupe as well as plenty of 124/1756 stuff as I have a Spider with that motor as well.
