Hello,
Does anyone have any experiences with the various exhaust systems currently available, either good or bad? I need to replace my exhaust, AND I need to fit a catalytic convertor. I am pretty sure I can't use the CSC system as there is no link pipe in which to put the cat. I am currently considering the Guy Croft system (looks great, but a little pricey right now), and the stainless steel road system from Omicron (about half the cost of GC, and available with twin tailpipes, but no picture on the website to compare). Does anyone have any recommendations or insights? Thanks!

Hi, James
The Croft system is really nice but it definitely IS pricey. I don't know how you'd put a cat into it though. You might want to check out Chad's site at the Monte Hospital. He also sells a stock Monte exhaust system that has the J-pipe in it and I THINK you can put a cat into it pretty easily.
Tell us about the Omicron system. I've never even heard of it before. Have you seen one before? Any photos?

I think I heard that the CSC header will fit the ANSA bottom end, the ANSA bottom end has a j-pipe and I think the cat can be fitted. I'm guilty of just looking at the headers, since my back half will have to be a custom job.

I am going off the picture on Chad's site, and it LOOKS as though you might be able to fit the cat in there as there is some sort of link pipe, but I have not verified this with Chad. He DOES also have the stock system, which would certainly work, but the cost of the stock system is high enough ( around $450 or so for all the pieces) that I would rather use the money toward something a bit sportier, even if it is a bit more expensive.
I will email Chad to get his opinion on the Croft system's adaptability. It definitely is the COOLEST system I've seen!
According to Omicron's website, they have several different systems available, including a stainless "road" system with single or dual tailpipes that uses the OE exhaust manifold. It looks like it goes for around $500-550 depending on the tailpipes. Also "sport" systems, race system, and the CSC as well. Apparently the road system has the link pipe which would accept the cat. Maybe I should start a new thread with this question, but am I the only one out there who has to deal with emmissions? I don't see much discussion about it, maybe it is something most people don't want to talk about! I know the regulations vary from state to state, but here in UT, 1967 and newer cars have to pass emmissions tests, and there don't seem to be any exemptions available. (I was hoping for a 25-year exemption, that would fit the Scorpion perfectly, but alas! No deal :( )
Thanks again for the thoughts.

The California guys have a lot of experience with emissions on Scorps. You should look up Mike Ross in the member list. He's not on this site that often but he can give you a lot of the lowdown and has owned ANSA, CSC, Chad's stock system and stock Scorp setups so he can fill you in quite well.
In fact, I'll drop him a line and ask him to stop in and provide some feedback for this thread.
Keep in mind that when Omicron says it's system mates to a stock system, the stock Euro Monte exhaust manifold is different than the stock Scorp manifold. I'd ask Andrew first to make sure they can provide one to bolt up to the Scorp manifold.

Thanks DJ, I had not thought about the possibility of different manifolds. It sure helps to have other brains chewing on these things!
I will keep investigating and post anything I find.

Okay, this must be the thread DJ was referring to.
I've run ALL aftermarket systems on my car except the Guy Croft one.
I also have dealt with the stock, smogger systems, so if you have a specific question, email me at:
harfkanarf@aol.com
or visit the Lancia Scorpion Egroup on Yahoo. I don't have enough time to track both forums, so I spend most my time over there. Plus the bay area guys seem to be concentrated on that site, and they are the guys I rub fenders with, so there is where I am at...
bottom line - CSC header into ANSA quadtip is your best bet, eliminates the j pipe...of course, if you need a CAT, the j pipe can have one welded in...
Just email me...
