Handbrake Cable

Does anyone know if the handbrake cable on the montecarlo is supposed to be "handed"?

I fitted one in January and all was fine until I removed one of the wheel spacers on each rear wheel of my car (two were fitted) and now the drivers side cable (right) rubs on the wheel. I have tried pulling it away but it wants to go back. I was thinking of using cable ties to hold it better. But then I remembered when I fitted it, it did seem loose that side but very tight the other. Anyone any ideas?

P.S. I removed one of the wheel spacers as the wheel bolts are just not long enough with two spacers on.

At least the one hanging up in my garage isn't ! The outer cables appear to be the same length - although it's not the original one, it's a "Scorpion Reproductions" version (what ever happened to them .. .).

It is supposed to clip through a cuople of plastic ties on the suspension arms to stop it getting in the way of things - which might well be missing after 20 years or so !
