If (and I can't quite make the numbers/letters out clearly :-[ ) thats 828 AC.0 then it would (I think) be a block from a 1st series 1600 coupe. If you can post what you see rather than what can be seen from the photo might be able to do a bit better ???

Having hassles with my compression software (still no broadband :( ) so I can't make out the picture clearly - can anyone make out the detail more clearly ???

I sharpened and enlarged the photo and the number appears to be 828AB 1A0 (The 0 is still very difficult to make out.)

I'll wite the block numbers down when I go out there again on Saturday...

If it helps any, there's a Volumex pulley on the crank snout...

Brad,
Arrording to Brian Longs book (my memory isn't that good for al the numbers ;D ) that block is from a berlina, an 1800 to be exact from 1975-78 if it's of US origin ;) It's possible (but I could be wrong) that the crank pulley Tx_Al mentions is an auxiliary drive pulley - possibly for power steering ??? Unless, ofcourse, someone has supercharged the engine at some point.

That is a US 1.8L Beta block, '75-'78. The toothed aux drive pulley is for the A/C-P/S drive.
