View Full Version : 2.0 IE: weak at low rev

Hi,

My 2.0 IE is quite weak at low rev, from about 3000 it is OK.
I know that here comes the max. torque, but in the past it was strong at every rev. Now there is a significant difference in acceleration when it reaches 2800 - 3000.
I do not know exactly when does it started. In the summer I have applied new exhaust system - it sure choked (is it the right word?) it more, but there wasn't so much difference.
Later I had injector problem (Starting problem - you helped me in this issue), but it is solved.
Can you advice me what to check (maybe not me, but a mechanic)?
Can it be some sort of mechanical problem like broken piston rings?

Thanks in advance

Bali,

It sounds like your vacuum advance hose has fallen off or has a leak. Look for a rubber hose about 6mm in dia. from the intake throttle body to the distributor.

Another possibility is that the actuator arm inside the distributor has broken or fallen off. To check this requires removing the distributor.

Good luck!

Thanks Gregory,

I have checked and cleaned the distributor - nothing special.

My problem is that I have a "strange" ignition system - but there wasn't any problem with this in the past (as I wrote it was strong at every rev.).
The Digiplex unit in front-right of the car is unplugged, not working. I do not know how and with what it is substituted.
And there is no vacuum hose at the distributor...

I know it is hard to help in such situation from distance.
I think you are right and it will be something with this crazy ingnition.

Thanks,
